where both his parents were cotton weavers.
1841 The census recorded John and family living in Hadfield, nr Glossop.
1851 Census shows John aged 11, a scholar, living at Folly Lane cottages near Worsley. Father was a power loom weaver.
1871 John and family at 14 Sarah Ann Street, Gorton, Manchester, occupation Railway Guard.
