The present family has a legend that Benjamin, and/or, his father worked on the Shildon Tunnel.
It is a fact that work on the tunnel commenced in 1839 and the official opening was

age 26, single, living with parents, Globe Street, Shildon. Occupation : quarryman
living with Judith daughters and parents, Chapel Street, Shildon. Occupation : stone quarrier
age 45, occupation mason
age 56, Back Richmond Street, East Thickley, occupation quarryman.
Benjamin died, age 65, reg. Auckland.
